The Ark Of Nuh And The Great Flood (Sticker Book)
Introduction
The story of Prophet Nuh (Noah, peace be upon him) and the Great Flood is one of the most well-known stories in Islamic tradition, and it is also found in earlier scriptures. It is a story about faith, patience, trust in Allah, and the consequences of disobedience. The “Sticker Book” format makes this story easier for children to understand, but behind the colorful images lies a deep lesson for all ages. Let’s walk through the story step by step and then highlight the moral lessons it carries.
The People of Nuh
A long time ago, after Prophet Adam (peace be upon him), people slowly began to forget the message of Allah. They started worshipping idols and false gods instead of Allah. They carved stones and made images of people they admired, and after some generations, those images became objects of worship. People prayed to these idols, thinking they could bring them blessings or protect them.
Allah, out of His mercy, chose a prophet to guide them. This prophet was Nuh (peace be upon him). He was a wise, patient, and righteous man who loved his people. Allah gave him the mission to call his people back to the worship of the One true God.
Nuh’s Invitation
Prophet Nuh (peace be upon him) went to his people with kindness and sincerity. He told them:
“O my people! Worship Allah alone, you have no other god but Him. Fear Him and obey me.”
But most of the people laughed at him. They said, “Why should we listen to you? You are just an ordinary man like us. You are not special.” The rich leaders especially rejected his message because they feared losing their power and status.
Prophet Nuh did not give up. He invited his people during the day and at night, in public and in private. He explained that worshipping idols would only lead to destruction, and worshipping Allah would bring forgiveness and paradise.
Despite his efforts for 950 years (as mentioned in the Qur’an, Surah Nuh), only a small group of people accepted his call. The majority stubbornly refused. They covered their ears, turned away, and even insulted him.
The Warning
When the people continued to reject the truth, Allah revealed to Prophet Nuh that no more people would believe beyond those who had already believed. This was a sign that their time was up.
Allah told Nuh (peace be upon him) that a great flood would come as punishment for the disbelievers, but the believers would be saved. He was commanded to build a huge ark (a massive boat) that could carry pairs of all animals and the believers.
Building the Ark
Prophet Nuh began building the ark in the middle of the land, far away from the sea. This ark was not a small boat, but a gigantic structure designed to float on great waves.
The disbelievers mocked him again. They laughed and said, “O Nuh! You used to preach to us, now you have become a carpenter?” Others said, “If you are really a prophet, why are you building a ship in the desert?”
Nuh (peace be upon him) did not pay attention to their mockery. He continued building with full trust in Allah’s command.
The Beginning of the Flood
When the ark was complete, Allah gave Nuh a sign: “When water begins to gush forth from the oven (or the ground), then begin to load the ark.”
Nuh gathered the believers and pairs of every type of animal—male and female. Birds, livestock, and wild animals all came, by Allah’s will, and entered the ark.
Then, it began:
Dark clouds filled the sky.
Rain poured down heavily.
Water gushed up from the earth.
Rivers overflowed, seas rose, and soon everything was covered in water.
This was not an ordinary flood; it was a flood that covered the entire earth. The waves were as high as mountains.
Nuh’s Son
One of Nuh’s sons had not believed in him. As the water rose, Nuh called out to him with love:
“O my son, come aboard with us, and do not be with the disbelievers!”
But his son replied, “I will take refuge on a mountain to save me from the water.”
Nuh said, “There is no protection today from the command of Allah except for those to whom He shows mercy.”
At that moment, a giant wave came between them, and his son drowned. This showed that family ties cannot save a person if they disbelieve—only faith in Allah can.
The Great Flood
The ark floated safely on the raging waters while the rest of humanity perished due to their rejection of the truth. For many days, the ark traveled across the endless flood, carrying the believers and the animals.
Finally, when Allah’s command was complete, the rain stopped, the earth swallowed its water, and the flood ended. The ark came to rest on a mountain known as Mount Judi.
After the Flood
The believers stepped out of the ark and began life anew. They thanked Allah for saving them. Humanity started again from the descendants of Prophet Nuh and the believers with him.
Prophet Nuh prayed:
“My Lord, grant me forgiveness, and to my parents, and to whoever enters my house as a believer, and to all the believing men and women.” (Qur’an 71:28)
